    Yemen

Yemen has for 9 years faced one of the world's worst humanitarian disasters due to conflict, displacement, and food insecurity.

Type of Crises Complex Emergency – Conflict, Disease, Displacement, Food Insecurity
Number of People Affected 18.2 million
Immediate High-Level Needs Food, Shelter, Healthcare, Education, Water, Sanitation, Construction

Ongoing violent conflict has displaced millions and left many in need of humanitarian assistance. 4.5 million people in Yemen remain displaced. Food insecurity and malnutrition are rampant, particularly among children.

The healthcare system is overwhelmed, and access to clean water and sanitation is limited, exacerbating the humanitarian situation and leading to widespread suffering. Yemen has witnessed increases in gender-based violence, including sexual violence and exploitation.

Additionally, Yemen is facing a major cholera outbreak; the cumulative number of cases reported in Yemen from 2016 to 2021 is 2.5 million, including 4,000 related deaths. Floods and drought alike conrtibute to worsening health situations. Psychosocial support for vulnerable populations is required.

    HSA Group and Tetra Pak

HSA Group and Tetra Pak have launched a school milk program in Yemen, collaborating with the Yemeni Ministry of Education and the World Food Programme to provide fortified milk to 10,000 children across 20 schools, aiming to improve nutrition and incentivize school attendance. Tetra Pak supplied durable packaging that preserves milk’s freshness for up to a year, addressing transportation challenges due to Yemen’s damaged infrastructure.
