    Myanmar

Myanmar faces a growing humanitarian emergency due to political instability, leading to conflict and displacement.

Type of Crises Complex Emergency – Conflict, Displacement, Food Insecurity
Number of People Affected 18.6 million
Immediate High-Level Needs Agriculture, Food, Water, Construction, Health, Education, Sanitation Services, Protection & Human Rights

Since the military coup in Myanmar in 2021, the situation has worsened significantly, with widespread violence, displacement, and ongoing conflict across much of the country. The military junta's brutal crackdown on pro-democracy protests and ethnic armed groups has severely disrupted access to essential services like healthcare, education, and sanitation. Poverty, food insecurity, and malnutrition have escalated, leaving millions in urgent need of humanitarian aid. Ethnic minorities, particularly the Rohingya, continue to endure systemic violence and forced displacement, with many living in overcrowded refugee camps in neighboring Bangladesh, facing limited access to basic services and ongoing threats to their safety.

Myanmar's healthcare system has collapsed under the strain of conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic, with critical shortages of medical resources and frequent targeting of hospitals by the military. Over 1% of the population lives with HIV/AIDS, and the lack of adequate healthcare and psychosocial support remains a pressing issue for vulnerable communities. Despite international calls for increased humanitarian assistance, access to aid is severely restricted due to military control and ongoing violence. Mental health services are urgently needed.
