Mali's humanitarian crisis has intensified due to escalating conflict, widespread displacement, and severe food insecurity. As of 2025, an estimated 7.1 million people require humanitarian assistance, with over half being children.
The crisis in Mali has further deteriorated, exacerbating the challenges previously outlined. Violence, primarily driven by jihadist insurgencies, continues to displace communities, particularly in the northern regions. UNICEF reports that in September 2023 alone, dozens of children were killed in the north and center of the country due to escalating conflicts.
Food insecurity and malnutrition have intensified. Approximately 7.1 million people now require humanitarian assistance, with nearly one million children under the age of five at risk of acute malnutrition.
In Mali, human rights violations remain a serious concern, particularly in areas affected by escalating conflict in the north and center of the country. Civilians face increasing risks of violence from both non-state armed groups and military operations. Reports continue to emerge of targeted abuses, including forced disappearances and arbitrary detentions, particularly in Gao, Timbuktu, and Mopti regions.
Health challenges are compounded by the resurgence of diseases such as polio and measles, posing significant threats to vulnerable populations, especially children.
The combination of conflict, displacement, and limited humanitarian access has created a complex environment for disease prevention and treatment.
